NEW! Pictures of our biofuels adventures :)
On this site you'll find information put together by the students of Heritage High School (and Ms. Gawron) as they've spent the last couple of years researching biofuels.
(This site is a continual work in progress - check back often).

The story:
The last two summers I have spent time doing biodiesel research at UGA as part of a teacher program called GIFT. Part of being in the program was to translate your summer experiences into lessons for the classroom. As a result of my first summer, I was one of two teachers chosen to take a week-long trip to the West/Midwest to look at renewable energy. I have since made many presentations about my GIFT experience which led to a service-learning grant from the DOE that I used last year to put on our first expo. This grant was also shared with another teacher in Berrien Co. Georgia. As part of this expo, I had several teachers (English, Video Production, Drama, STS) working on things from brochures to a skit, and a DVD documentation of our process. We were also fortunate enough, with the help of Honey Creek Automotive, to convert an old diesel Mercedes to run on straight vegetable oil (waste from our cafeteria). This gained us press in the AJC and on Fox 5 and I've since developed more lessons and given more presentations on our success.
